Episode 304: Successful Entrepreneur - 5 Tips on What Qualities You Need to Have to Make it Work

Have you thought about being an entrepreneur? A lot of people are trying it out more and more lately, especially with the pandemic keeping so many people home.

Brenda had always wanted to be an entrepreneur but she initially went the traditional route with the “Big Girl Salary” job. When she was ready to say goodbye to that career and retire, she knew it was now or never.

She has always been a hard worker and a go getter. She knew she had entrepreneurship in her genes, so she took the leap.

Brenda says that becoming an entrepreneur was, and is, one of the most difficult things she has done in her life. She has never had to be more responsible, work harder, and be more attentive. She also explains in this video how she has never experienced disappointment as deeply as she has with being an entrepreneur.

Even with her solid business and sales background, she tended to feel lost a lot of the time, because she was so close to her business.

From this experience, Brenda Holley has learned what entrepreneurs need to have a successful business. In this video she will share those TOP 5 Tips that you will want to think about before making the jump.

  1. Passion & Staying Power It’s easy to be excited in the beginning. It is when you hit those bumps in the road that you have to look out for. Learn to emulate Brenda’s Surfer from her analogy to ride the wave.

  2. Self-Confidence You are the brand. You need to show enthusiasm and self-confidence. If you fall short in the this area, don’t worry, this can be a learned skill. Work with Brenda to get the level of confidence needed to be a successful business owner.

  3. Create a Business Plan, but… Don’t get carried away with too many details. Focus on the first steps with smaller goals to work your way through the rest. Some answers you may not know yet. You may need to be in it to see your way through it. Brenda loves this quote from Richard Branson on starting his original business, Virgin Records "Had we such a plan for the future, we would most certainly messed it up."

  4. Continue Education Always be improving yourself and your knowledge. Take at least a couple of courses or trainings each year to keep your skillset polished and current.

  5. Plan the Night Before When you jot down your plans for the next day, you will be able to tackle those easier when you know what is expected of you. Consider 3 things that you really want to get done and do those first. Take any larger projects and break them down into smaller tasks.

Brenda has over 30 years of management experience in Human Resources. Plus she has helped 1000's of people attain jobs at 100's of different companies throughout the world. So she might know a thing or two! These tips are just the top of the iceberg.
