7 Reasons Why Should You Never Give Up On Yourself

Published: 11/13/2019

I know. I get it. I live it myself some days. Okay, many days. The slog uphill in the mud to a big dream just seems so hard with that 100-pound backpack of rocks strapped on. The idea of giving up seems like a blessed relief. Here’s why we shouldn’t and why I won’t.

Success Is Closer Than You Think. Really. There are going to be dark spots on the path before you reach success. This is totally normal. Repeat that sentence to yourself as often as the situation demands it. Personally, I drag it out and trot it around quite a bit. Today may be hard. Tomorrow could be even worse. But that day when it all comes together will be so worth it.

Do-overs Are Allowed! You can rewrite, revise and edit your life, business, and future. It’s healthy to do so if you aren’t getting the results you want. If one thing doesn’t work, change it up! Go on and try out new things to revitalize the situation. Comb-overs are problematical on bald men. Do-overs are not. Remember that.

Honor Your Commitment. To your goal and to yourself. A dream isn’t worth anything until you couple it with intention and action. Many of us have had our goals living in our mind for years. When is it your time to get real with intention + action? “Never, never, never give up.” Winston Churchill.

Cultivate Patience for the Journey. Remember the song “It Don’t Come Easy” by Ringo Starr? I have to repeat some version of this to myself regularly. As he notes “Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues”…or anything else you want to accomplish.

Nobody can create anything worthwhile in a day; no business can become a million dollar venture overnight, and no idea is worth throwing in the garbage if all the stops haven’t been pulled out yet. Be patient and go the distance. Think of Ringo who is still touring at 78. He’s only been doing his music since 1957.

Success Isn’t Easy. Recognizing that essential truth is hard in the day-to-day. Reaching a long sought goal is a special moment that you’ll cherish forever.  Knowing that we did everything we could for ourselves and others to earn that goal can be more rewarding than the attainment itself. Behind every successful person, there is a story and a long-fought journey for him or her to get to where he or she is today. Yes, every one.

Quitting is Habit Forming. This is one habit you definitely don’t want. If you give up on the things that matter most to you, it’s easy to establish a pattern of giving up on anything when things don’t go the way you hoped. You will not learn the importance of persistence — and anything worthwhile requires persistence.

Self-Belief. Don’t give up on yourself. Giving up on your dream is the same as giving up on YOU. A lot of people may have your goal or dream. No one has it just like you do. Believe in you. “If there’s one thing I’m willing to bet on, it’s myself.” — Beyonce.

Giving up on our dreams can be particularly challenging to women. When we add in the layer of a woman at mid-life or better, the mountain can feel so high. I focus on mid-life women who have big goals. If you are ready to fulfill your goals NOW, reach out to me at brenda@brendaholley.com. Shoot me an email and let’s talk.
