Authentic Native American Fetishes

Zuni fetishes are small handmade carvings from stones, gems, glass and other materials by the Zuni Native American people in New Mexico. These carvings have traditionally served religious and ceremonial purposes for their creators and depict animals and icons integral to their culture. As a form of contemporary American art, they are sold with secular intentions to collectors worldwide.

In Native tradition dating back over 1000 years, each animal is believed to have inherent powers or qualities associated with that animal that may aid the owner. By honoring the animal depicted in the carving, we can summon our own strengths in those areas.

The style of the fetishes is as unique as each artist. Many Zuni artists make their living selling these wonderful carvings. I’ve personally met each of the people and families whose work I have here. They live on the original pueblo lands outside Gallup, New Mexico.

Zuni fetishes are small pieces of wonder that you can carry with you or have on your desk to give you the focus and strength of that particular animal. I do both and find them to be both beautiful art and very centering.

If you are interested in one of these special pieces, I’m happy to review the characteristics of the animal you are interested in with you.
